Ginger’s journey with Mothers’ Milk Bank began unexpectedly, shortly after the birth of her second child. Her daughter arrived two months premature, and like many parents of NICU babies, Ginger and her family were immediately faced with uncertainty and concern for their newborn’s health.
Thankfully, Ginger’s body responded to the challenge with an abundant milk supply—more than enough to nourish her daughter. During their stay at Wesley Children’s Hospital in Wichita, KS, the nurses introduced the idea of donor milk in case supplementation was needed. While Ginger didn’t need to supplement, the introduction to donor human milk sparked something in her.
Having breastfed her firstborn, an enthusiastic nurser, and now producing an even greater supply, Ginger realized she could do more. Confident in her ability to provide for her daughter and others in need, she became a milk donor for Mothers’ Milk Bank.

Ginger was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get her milk from Kansas to Colorado. Thanks to Mothers’ Milk Bank’s partnerships with providers nationwide, she was able to drop off her milk at a milk depot in her own community throughout her breastfeeding journey. The staff at the depot answered all her questions and ensured that every ounce of her precious milk was carefully shipped to Mothers’ Milk Bank in Colorado, where it was processed and sent to NICUs—including the one where her daughter received care.
Her decision to donate stemmed not just from her physical ability, but from an understanding of how vital human milk can be—especially for fragile, premature infants like her daughter. She knew firsthand the emotional and physical toll of a NICU stay, and donating milk became her way of helping other families navigate those same challenges.
“Every ounce of milk is a chance for a baby to thrive,” Ginger says. “I’m so grateful to be part of that process.”
Even after her daughter was weaned and her milk supply ended, Ginger’s support for MMB continued. Today, she and her family give back through annual financial donations, helping ensure that other babies and families receive the care and resources they need.
Support like Ginger’s—whether through milk donation or a financial gift—can help give fragile babies the healthiest possible start. Offering hope, strength, and healing to the most vulnerable among us.
